Kitesurfing or Kiteboarding is a very popular sport in South Africa and is rated the fastest growing extreme sport in the world. It has been described as combining wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding, and gymnastics into one extreme sport. A kitesurfer uses a board combined with the power of a large, wind-filled, controllable kite, to propel himself and the board across the water. Dolphin Beach in Table View, Cape Town, is now on the international map as one of the world's premier, kitesurfing hot spots. When the strong South Easterly wind blows, the area has ideal conditions for photographers, as there is a steep, shelved beach, which enables the Kite Surfers to surf close to the water's edge. This west-facing beach is ideal for action photography.
